I hope this letter find you well and happy.
Mike, I have some suggestions and an Invitation to Be More Powerful for you, that I hope will make you and your work even more powerful and effect than you already are. Thanks for listening.
Please make your next movie about Saving the Planet and about saving our economy and the re-birth of Flint Michigan.
If you can make a film about Flint’s demise, Roger and Me, why can’t you make a film about Flint’s re-birth?
I think that every community has to mobilize to save the planet from climate change, and doing so would also generate lots of jobs and economic growth. It’s the true physical and economic defense of every nation.
So my suggestion is, that you make it person priority to save the planet, then open your mind to see what’s possible, then take action to save it.
Then you approach the CEOs of Solar Panel, Wind Generator, Hydrogen Fuel Cell, Hydrogen gas tank, Tidal and Wave generator manufacturers, and any other Green or Clear (zero emission) products you can think of, and challenge them to build them in Flint, the way you challenged the CEO of Nike to build their shoes in Flint, in Roger and Me.
You could be leading the fight against Climate Change and of Flint’s renewal, while also educating and leading the rest of the World to Save the Planet. You could do a film about these technologies and how everyone can fight Climate Change and about Flint got back on its’ feet and is even in better shape than before GM pulled out 30,000 jobs.
You spent a lot of time in Roger and Me showing us all the dilapidated homes and the people being foreclosed on and thrown out of their homes on Christmas. You could be showing the same neighborhoods today, that have new homes and show how Flint is thriving, now that they have good jobs again. Demonstrating that what’s good for the Planet is also good for people.
Then the people of Flint could be building Solar panels, Wind Generators, Electrolyzers, Hydrogen Gas tanks, and Hydrogen Fuel Cells, for their own homes, for their own town, the rest of the nation, and for the rest of the World.
Work to convince the Town of Flint to convert to renewable energy and put the technologies that their own citizens have built on their Town Hall, Library, Fire House, Schools, and Police Station, and on every home and business in town = a 100% Zero Emission and Energy Independent Town!
Convince them by using the argument that it’s in the true defense of the town to have a government the doesn’t pollute their own children, that never has a blackout again, is therefore up and running if there were to be a disaster or a terrorist attack, and it would be supporting the town’s new industry and its’ good new jobs.
Flint could be the first zero emission and energy independent town in Michigan if not in the entire country, which would also be good PR for tourism and for relocating new businesses. You all could be saying, “Come to Flint! Join us in Saving the Planet. We won’t pollute your Children.” or “Flint Michigan, We’re On it!”
Mike you could also work to extrapolate the success of Flint out to the rest of the country and then the World. He could be showing the World how we all can thrive and survive, by going all the way by Going Clear instead of just Going Green. 100% not killing the planet, instead of only partially reducing some emissions. It’s going to take more than just your town living this way and manufacturing this way. All nations and all towns have to mobilize to save the planet. So you could also export how to do it.
You could turn things around. Instead of a School of the America’s that hosts people from all over the world to get educated on how to torture people, You could invite people from all over the world to come to Flint to get educated about how to resurrect their town and save the planet.
I’m an English major, and Mike you are one of my literary Heroes. I got a free laptop to help me finish this book, and to keep the batteries cool, I propped it up with your books, Stupid White Men, and Dude Where’s My Country?. I have read nearly all of your books and seen all of your movies, including now Sicko, which is your best so far.
I have a funny story to tell you Mike, about how I acted on your information.
One day as I was walking back from lunch, and a black man asked me for some change. This was when I had a good job, before I quit it to go on this adventure 5 years ago. We just happen to be standing in a parking lot that was behind a Dairy Queen and I only had a $20 bill on me. So I told him I would not only give him some money, but I’d also buy him an ice cream. We walked in to the Dairy Queen and while I ordered the ice cream and got some change, I pulled out your book, Stupid White Men, that I had just been reading at lunch. I opened the book up and had him read the chapter, “Kill Whitey.” Which was about how we white people have been conditioned to fear black men and how it was all white men whoever harmed you, Mike, like the CEO of GM who killed your town. Anyway, I thought it was amusing, and I also wanted to show that black man what you said Mike. I gave him the ice cream and $5. The man appreciated my gifts and what he read in your book.
I have a lot of respect for you Mike because you started out like me as a regular citizen, not an expert. You educated yourself then acted out your spiritually by speaking out about social injustices. In the beginning you were speaking powerfully but were inarticulate and even bumbling, and now you are very articulate and eloquent as well as powerful in your books and movies, and in your efforts to solve problems and manifest social change. You have the courage to take on the major issues of our times, and are speaking powerful, eloquently, and from a moral and spiritual conscience. You also do it with humor and common sense.
Your example, books, and activism are the literal foundation of my book, propping up my laptop while I wrote it and inspiring me with your activism.
I’m attempting to follow your fine example and to speak as powerfully as you have for years. The first edition of this book had lots of errors in it, and I’m generally shy, soft spoken, and not very articulate, and I sometimes stumble my words and stammer. So I can only hope that over time I will improve as a writer and as a public speaker and I will eventually succeed in becoming as powerful, articulate, and effective in my work to Save the Planet as you have become in your work, Mike. I heard you on Democracy Now! talking about your latest movie, Sicko, and I was impressed by how eloquent you’ve become. I wanted to say to you, like the mountain man in the movie Jeremiah Johnson, who said to Jeremiah at the end of that movie, “You’ve come far, Pilgrim.”
Anyway, at the end of that interview, you said, “It starts with me.”
You were talking about your newly found healthy living, eating veggies, and losing 30 pounds, after advocating for universal and preventative health care. Now please consider not only doing your next movie about saving Flint and the Planet, but also convert all your offices, homes, cars, and tour vans, for you next book tour, to Hydrogen fuel cells, Solar, Water, and Wind, covert your cars to burn Hydrogen, and become Zero Emission and Energy Independent. You can talk to Roy McAlister, the President of the American Hydrogen Association, who is a real expert on these technologies and who can help you.
You have the money now. Let it truly start with you, and your talking bold action by living out your politics, spirituality, and ideals. Make it a Personal Priority and show the World that it’s possible to live this way, now, and that we don’t have to wait another 20 years.
If you did live this way you would support renewable energy jobs, help bring down the price of these technologies for everyone else, and use your fame and money to do what you can to end Climate Change, and stop our need to fight wars for Oil.
Please choose to Be even More Powerful by doing your next movie about saving Flint and the Planet. Such a movie would be very successful and could inspire the American people and the rest of the World to take action to Save the Planet, the same way you have with all the other issues that you have chosen to tackle. You could also drive up the Oscars, in a Hydrogen burning Limo to pick up your next Academy Award.

P.S.
It is 2009 now and Mike as a new movie coming out, called, Capitalism a Love Story. So obliviously he didn’t listen to me. I just saw Mike on Larry King and he said that there are already people talking about Climate Change, like Al Gore, and he wants to focus on issues that others aren’t talking about. Sad news, because those movies are not talking about the solutions to the problem. But I am going to send him a copy if this book, so maybe after reading these ideas he will change his mind and he will do his next movie about saving the economy and planet.
